A little more color!! Yes please!

Standard

Well, decided to finally get the seat covers for my kitchen chairs a little makeover! So I traded my dandy Singer for a friend’s father’s staple gun (say that 10 times fast eh). It was supposed to be a quick project– in my head I was determined to get it done in less than an hour! NO SIR!

There was really only one minor snag in the process, however, this snag caused about a half hour or more set back! You see, these chairs have been recovered multiple times before.  Each time leaving the cover from before attached and working over it. Also, in addition to the 3 layers of fabric I had to remove, each layer had double the staples! At one point I counted 23 large staples on one cover (2nd layer in). Woahhhhhhh!! I jabbed my hand a few times taking these little metal pieces out! But I did it!! The results were well worth it! I love the colors and how it really pops on the white chair bases!

Inspiration time

Standard

Hey guys,

Sorry again for the lack of inactivity, we have been pretty busy here in this home. Getting ready to move into our first little house! Hoping the winter is great there, as we could potentially buy in spring or summer and become official home owners! Hellllloooo Pinterest! Hahaha. Another deal breaker was a little room just off our bedroom will make a perfect sewing area!! Finally I can say goodbye to my kitchen table for sewing! The boyfriend will not have to growl at the fact that my serger or machine and fabric is all over the place!! Excitteddd! So with all that going on, I am sad to say that my internet may not be available to possibly September or October, so my posts (as slack as they are now) may become even less– but no worries, I will definitely be more organized and better able to document projects to come back with 🙂

Alrighty– so wanted to do my inspiration post up first. So here we go

Today’s first stop is at Blue Susan Makes —http://bluesusanmakes.blogspot.ca/

Lots of fun and a great place to stop in for a cup of tea and a drool bib– seriously though, great content. She has a post in June on a little superhero party– it was amazing and looks like the kids had a great time training!! This is a great one to save if you have little boys!

Next visit was with We Lived Happily Ever After http://www.welivedhappilyeverafter.com/2013/02/despicable-me-stuffed-minion-tutorial.html

I loved this tutorial it was cute and straight forward! Sad to say however, I also bookmarked this one for myself lol. I loved this movie so much that I had to go to get a Happy Meal just for the toys! Shhhhhh we will keep that between us!  And the Recipes! Woahhhhhh Yum. Tried the Royal Icing — never going back– this one is truly a keeper. Beautiful blog 🙂

The last one I checked out today and am still caught up in reading is Claire from Fellow Fellow @ http://fellowfellow.com/   It just makes you warm and fuzzy looking at her DIY menu http://fellowfellow.com/category/diy/  WOW. All I can say is WOW

Hope you get to take some time to check out these lovely sites! I guarantee, not a second will have been wasted!

Thinking about Thursday

Standard

Hey again, I am determined to be a bit more devoted to staying updated on here! So far it has been a good run don’t you think? Well today is one of those days that I have not been able to get my serger or sewing machine out so . . . when I have gotten a few moments to myself I have been flipping through my Make it yourself  magazine 🙂 This is  my second one this year . . . I have fallen in love.  Getting some good ideas from it for future projects.

Here are a few shots I took to refer to in the future. This issues cover

Well this is too cute, and the right size for your smartphone and necessities. I think when I make one I will be adding a couple card slots inside for the cards I Need when I am just out for a small time :)

Is this not cute for just a little digital camera :) My case right now is kind of big and bulky for my little Sony.

I love this, My youngest will have his first birthday in September and already I am dreaming of what decorations I will be doing. This will fit as it is a Woodlands theme <3

What are your inspirations for your next projects?  I love this magazine and stuff like this cause when I look around my home, I see how much I have made for other homes and get a little saddened, as I don’t seem to really take the time and use my stash for around here.

I will also be starting my son’s birthday gift very shortly so it will have no excuse for not being done in time. Doing a quilt made from my favorite creepers that he wore throughout his first year!! Lots to chose from!!

By the Way before I leave this post, I would like to also bring attention to a couple Give Aways that this magazine has shared. Please check out the links and try out for them.

Well we are into May now!!

Standard

Hey guys, I know I have not updated, but it has been nice Weather here on PEI and Mr. M and Handsome H just need to have some outdoor adventures! Also had some machine issues but since then was able to take it apart and actually fix the issue myself, I am not sure what exactly I did, but just turned a couple little things. It wasn’t dirty or dusty so I put it back together (the puzzle that itself was) and bamm she ran again without eating into my material!! I love when things fall together like that, although it does not seem to work like that often 🙂 Well I busied myself with getting some more flannel gift sets together, this time in a more boy friendly print. Also I got a little craft inspiration from http://apronhistory.blogspot.ca/2012/03/project-dish-soap-bottle-apron.html and tried my hand at aprons for my soap bottle, love it! I call here Silly Suds! Got a couple projects I want to get finished up this weekend and lots on my want to try coming up soon, my goal is to get enough silly practical items to take to the Farmer’s Market in June 🙂 Time is really hard to compete with, but will try!! ImageImage

Hey again, well I went off my streak of posting everyday 😦 I have been trying to pick at my projects while the boys sleep or here and there when the HE is actually off for a day here or there. So I have a couple updates on the Nappy wallets and Diaper Holders 🙂 That is they are coming along haha! Its kind of cool to watch how they went from long rectangles of fabric to actual items that can be practical 🙂 Well I am off now to see what trouble I can get into with the kids and then when the He gets back from his ball practice, finish up on these projects so that I can start on some cute little Chef Hats: I found a really great tutorial here at: http://curlypops.blogspot.ca/2009/08/tutorial-how-to-make-chefs-hat-for-your.html . She has a great amount of pictures to help guide the tut, so please check it out as they make for the cutest toddler and up gifts 🙂

Thanks for popping by, I will make sure to update the gallery here with all the finished items from todays work 🙂

Finally a new project

Standard

Mostly complete, just need to add some rick rack around the letter edging and glue the ribbon in place!

Hey guys, sorry again for the inactivity!! Finally got a project  worth posting lol.  A friend of mine is due anytime here, so I have been trying to get a few items done for her. I wanted to do a bigger gift along side of some baby essentials, so I have decided to do a piece of nursery decor for the baby’s room! Not sure if it is a boy or girl so going to try to get some unisex colors.  I am going to need to get to the store this week to get a larger piece of canvas board and some paint! For now I am trying to get my pattern for an owl figured out and here is what I have so far . . . when the project is completely done I will add more pics and a quick tutorial!  The colors on this owl will not be the colors used on the project itself, this is just a mock pattern so far!! If anything when it is done, My My can have it for his collection!! I do not use embroidery floss very often so I thought I would try it for a more decorative finish!! Will post the finished owl tomorrow!!  Pretty excited for this project, will be a first for paint and sewing in one for me!!  Hope everyone has a goodnight!

Buttons Buttons Buttons

Standard

So I have received all sorts of buttons over the Holiday!! I love buttons so it is of no worry, however, I have been since, trying to find out what to do with them, so this month I think I will be sharing my projects made with these little plastic pieces of delight!!!  The first project I have decided to do, is a really easy one suited for a toddler (I would not let a small child who likes to place things in their mouth as buttons are quite enticing and could easily be swallowed if they become loose).  I will be including some pictures for a really simple tutorial. I apologise as I have not yet mastered adding media through the wordpress outlet, I will get better 🙂

So I am going to be adding the tutorial here shortly, I am making a small Beatle car for my son, incorporating some cool and easy button work for the tires and possibly the headlights!!  Please stay tuned for tutorial!  Thanks for following and my posts should be more regular here shortly with the Holiday madness behind us!! I will also be doing a quick tutorial here this month for some  Valentine crafts in a week or so ( you guessed it, with buttons).

Alright now as promised I will try my best to follow through with posting my projects within reasonable time from

when mentioned. Here is the little beatle car I constructed (quite easily I will add)

This is a magnet also, and it not as flawless as one I would make if he were to have on a wall, as I know his hands will have it wrinkled in NO time 🙂 But that is the fun part about these, they are so quick to make and you need very little supplies!

Zombie Doll Tutorial

Standard

Hey these guys are a bit time consuming to make, but can accomplished in about 2-5 hours, depending on if you choose to use a machine or hand sew. I choose to use both methods. So to do one of these guys, you will need

  • Gray T-Shirt or Gray fabric
  • Felt (red for blood) or red fabric for the blood patches, (white for eyes, black for mouth)
  • Old material for the clothing
  • Thread, I use, Black and Red, and Gray
  • Needle and/or sewing machine
  • Extra material to use for your embellishments

Gray T-Shirt I used

Cut out the pattern for your doll, remember you will cut two identical pieces for both the body and the arms. You should now have two matching body pieces and 4 identical arm pieces. You are now ready to cut some bite wounds out of your pattern, I chose to do only one side of the body as bitten, and left the back side in tact, I did the same with one of the arms,You are now able to attach your red material to the bite wound holes you have just created, I attached them with black thread and hand stitchedThis is the wounded arm I have stiched together and stuffed

the material from the ‘wrong side ‘ of the material. This is the wounded arm I have stiched together and stuffed

Alright, so when you have the blood patches completed, you will now work on the eyes and mouth, this is one of the stages that is fun to get created, I do blood shot eyes, but I think the next one I do will have dark circles under the white part of their eyes. I also tried one with buttons for eyes.   After the facial features are done, congrats you are ready to turn both body pieces (leave the arms til last) wrong sides facing out together and sew the body up leaving the top part of your Zombie’s head open so that you can stuff the little guy!! When the body is stitched, turn the doll the right side out so that the facial features and blood splats show appropriately. I use a chopstick to help push the seams out a bit, and for the stuffing process as well.
